Murray Hill Chinese School (MHCS) has a long history of over 4 decades. It was founded in Murray Hill, New Jersey, in February 1983 and was named after its location. It began with 30 students divided into 3 classes, which were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Summit. As the school grew, MHCS relocated to Faith Lutheran Church in Murray Hill in the spring of 1985. That same year, cultural classes were introduced. In the fall of 1989, MHCS moved to New Providence High School, where it remained until the fall of 1997. To accommodate further growth, the school relocated once again to Watchung Hills Regional High School, where we currently are.
In February 1989, MHCS joined the Chinese American Cultural Association (CACA) as a group member. CACA comprises five Chinese schools—Mid-Jersey Chinese School, Union Chinese School, Raritan Valley Chinese School, Edison Chinese School, and Murray Hill Chinese School—as well as five affiliated clubs: Chinese American Music Ensemble, Chinese American Dance Ensemble, Women’s Club, 40 Plus Club, and Young Players Philharmonic.
